Carlton Boon, as New FPPA President

The Flexographic Pre-Press Platemakers Association (FPPA) held its 14th Annual convention in Tucson, Arizona in February. Stepping into the role of FPPA President is Carlton Boon; Sales Manager for VT Graphics, Inc. Carlton has had an active role in the FPPA since its inception and VT Graphics was one of the founding members of the organization. Carlton previously held the chair of the FPPA Technology Committee and has attended numerous industry related educational seminars at Clemson University and The Rochester Institute of Technology.

In his role as president, Carlton will be working in concert with several seasoned industry professionals on the Board of Directors for the FPPA to help grow the organization, provide additional educational opportunities for the membership and expand industry supplier involvement in the coming year. “The association has a great deal to offer its members, including peer connectivity, educational opportunities for staff and management as well as access to a host of leading industry suppliers.” said Boon. “There are people in this association who can help you better manage your company: that’s a message the FPPA wants to deliver.”

Tru Color Proofing

In years past, proofs would consist of art boards with color keys. In today’s digital world, you’re dealing with encad proofs for print position (including traps and bleeds) and digital proofs for color match. Using Esko Artwork’s KaleidoscopeTM color management software, VT Graphics has developed a proprietary TrucolorTM dot proofing system.

This system, combined with a press fingerprint allows VT to simulate gain and line screen that match specific presses currently running at customer box plants. VT’s proofing system significantly cuts down on press time and waste. With the pressman correctly managing the variables, printed piece and proof typically match within a few sheets.

VT Graphics introduced its digital imaging capability early this year. With its launch of digital imaging and digital workflow processes, VT assures they remain on the cutting edge of technology and reinforces its position as a leader in the flexographic plate making industry. The addition of an Esko CDI 50 x 80 large format CyrelTM Digital flexo plate imager allows VT Graphics to offer the highest quality optimized digital plates available, with a broader tonal range and an improved dot structure for reducing fluting when printing on corrugated board. Digital plates raise the quality bar for all converters. Not only do they provide superior print quality results, but they have also been proven to remain viable on press for longer runs.

Using the Digital Flexo Suite for packaging enhances VT Graphics' ability to be productive by increasing throughput while cutting waste. This in turn will allow us to offer many cost effective solutions to converters. An added innovation of the Digital Flexo Suite is the digital flexo cutting/mounting system which boosts mounting accuracy for all multi-color and process work.
